Hopefully you are doing well and enjoying the Olympics from Paris - there are times I think it would be wonderful to shoot images at an event like that but the pressure to capture extreme peak moments by athletes, traveling between events and tight deadlines for two weeks would be exhausting. Huge respect for those media members covering the games, maybe I can join a team of photographers to tell stories one day and share the adventure with you. On the weather front, feeling for those families who live in Jasper, Alberta Canada and lost everything except what they could manage to take with them during the evacuation. Personally, last weekend started a big push of events for a couple of months, where I will be shooting images every weekend until mid to late October, not complaining as I need to stay busy. Looking forward to getting out and capturing some personal images at locations that I have not been to before or have not seen in a few years.
Our first image this month, plus the mobile image, is actually from a location I have not visited in nearly a decade - Acadia National Park. This view is Jordan Pond, looking towards the Bubbles, with the North Bubble nearly covered in clouds. My original plan was to capture sunrise from Cadillac Mountain but I failed to obtain an entry ticket, who would have thought in the middle of the week that all tickets would be sold in less than 5 minutes? The second option was this view, which was delightful as only my daughter and myself were along the pond. Strangely, about 15 minutes after this image was captured, both Bubbles and the majority of Jordan Pond were obscured by fog. I was surprised how quickly the fog arrived and covered everything and after heading to Bar Harbor for breakfast, we found the fog had circled the island. Camera Data: 50mm 1/5 sec F9 ISO400
The second image this month is an adult Osprey with three growing chicks, this was captured near East Point Lighthouse in southern New Jersey. East Point is the second oldest lighthouse in New Jersey and the only remaining New Jersey land-based lighthouse on the Delaware Bay. There could be a future newsletter featuring this or another lighthouse in NJ. The Osprey's are sitting in a nest built on a platform, for those who are not familiar with Osprey, they tend to make a nest in less than-ideal locations for us humans - normally on top of power poles. In areas where Osprey are abundant, groups will build platforms like this one to give the wildlife better options. During my short morning in this area, I was able to capture numerous images of Osprey in nests situated in the Heislerville Wildlife Management Area. Camera Data: 400mm 1/1600 sec F2.8 ISO640
