March 1st 2025

We are in spring meltdown mode as the temperatures warmup and any snow we had is turning into water very quickly. Winter in Central Illinois was not very snowy and I would rate as mild overall. We had some snow but generally it did not last very long once it fell. Our wonderful DOT teams made sure our roads were white with all the salt they dropped, does wonders for the vehicles. I have seen some predications that spring is going to bring big storms across the US but I honestly don’t know how the weather models can pred ...Continue Reading

Hopefully everyone is having a pleasant winter season in the Northern Hemisphere, here in the Midwest we have been riding the temperature roller coaster. Personally, I wish it would stay colder, not necessarily below freezing during the day but low enough to keep most waterways frozen to enhance the photo opportunities. The National Weather Service is predicting February to be near normal for the majority of the Midwest while most of the South and Eastern seaboard is above normal. Would be good for the photography to ha ...Continue Reading

Happy New Year and welcome in 2025! Hopefully everyone had a relaxing New Years Eve and were able to enjoy some time with family and/or friends. With 2024 in the rearview mirror, I have reflected on what a year it was and thankful for the clients, friends and my family, along with the ability to travel and create images. While the travel this past year had some challenges, it helps keep me grounded and thankful for each day. While I do not make resolutions, I do want to expand my opportunities and push my limits while m ...Continue Reading

More than likely we sound like a broken record as we mention every month how fast this year is passing by, but it's about four weeks before we ring in 2025. Personally, this year has flown by and I attribute that to the amount of work I have been involved with every month. The two primary sports I cover, motorsports and ice hockey overlap in both the spring and fall, so there are challenges in providing my services to clients for each sport. We would like to say thank you to all the clients who hire us to provide images ...Continue Reading

October was filled with photo opportunities, almost too many for my schedule. The first couple of weeks had some incredible aurora displays, hopefully everyone was able to see them. Here in the USA, for a couple of nights, the displays were seen in all fifty states; not sure the last time that occurred or if it ever has previously. Hockey season has started, so that fills a few nights a week plus we had a comet streak past our planet, so I spent a few nights attempting to capture images of that short-lived event. T ...Continue Reading

Sending thoughts and prayers to everyone in the Southeast US after the damage sustained from Hurricane Helene. My shooting schedule has just lightened up as the final motorcycle race weekend has been completed, over this year I traveled to eleven states to cover 20 professional race events. The last eight weeks have been very busy with travel, so slowing down a little will be nice - one car race next weekend and then my hockey season will begin. Our images this month are from travel last month, to America's first Nation ...Continue Reading

The end of summer is coming soon, kids are back in school, so now is a perfect time to get out and enjoy our National Parks! Wish I would have used that mindset last month but we took some time and visited a few National Parks and Monuments out West, plus were able to sample some wildfire smoke at the same time. Next month we will focus more on some of the adventures from the trip to the Western US but first we will present some images from the current Midwest. As always, if you have a subject you would like to see on t ...Continue Reading

Hopefully you are doing well and enjoying the Olympics from Paris - there are times I think it would be wonderful to shoot images at an event like that but the pressure to capture extreme peak moments by athletes, traveling between events and tight deadlines for two weeks would be exhausting. Huge respect for those media members covering the games, maybe I can join a team of photographers to tell stories one day and share the adventure with you. On the weather front, feeling for those families who live in Jasper, A ...Continue Reading

Hard to believe we are at the half-year mark already, time seems to be moving so fast nowadays - maybe it's because we have so many things we attempt to complete and not taking the time to relax to see the sights. This past month I spent nearly every week on the road and captured so many images that I will be sharing in the future; it's exciting to have a good selection of images that I believe you will enjoy. Can honestly say I rarely slow down to enjoy the sights, a habit I am trying to break. Let's get right to the i ...Continue Reading

This month I am going to avoid talking about how the weather is, politics and airlines - too many people are doing that already. Let's just say I hope everyone and their loved ones are doing well as summer as begun in the Northern Hemisphere. For me, this is the time I am extremely busy and can honestly say I do not know when my next weekend without an event will be, without looking at my calendar. There are pluses and minuses being a freelance photographer. The images this month will have history lessons for every ...Continue Reading
