October was filled with photo opportunities, almost too many for my schedule. The first couple of weeks had some incredible aurora displays, hopefully everyone was able to see them. Here in the USA, for a couple of nights, the displays were seen in all fifty states; not sure the last time that occurred or if it ever has previously. Hockey season has started, so that fills a few nights a week plus we had a comet streak past our planet, so I spent a few nights attempting to capture images of that short-lived event. T ...Continue Reading

Sending thoughts and prayers to everyone in the Southeast US after the damage sustained from Hurricane Helene. My shooting schedule has just lightened up as the final motorcycle race weekend has been completed, over this year I traveled to eleven states to cover 20 professional race events. The last eight weeks have been very busy with travel, so slowing down a little will be nice - one car race next weekend and then my hockey season will begin. Our images this month are from travel last month, to America's first Nation ...Continue Reading

The end of summer is coming soon, kids are back in school, so now is a perfect time to get out and enjoy our National Parks! Wish I would have used that mindset last month but we took some time and visited a few National Parks and Monuments out West, plus were able to sample some wildfire smoke at the same time. Next month we will focus more on some of the adventures from the trip to the Western US but first we will present some images from the current Midwest. As always, if you have a subject you would like to see on t ...Continue Reading

Hopefully you are doing well and enjoying the Olympics from Paris - there are times I think it would be wonderful to shoot images at an event like that but the pressure to capture extreme peak moments by athletes, traveling between events and tight deadlines for two weeks would be exhausting. Huge respect for those media members covering the games, maybe I can join a team of photographers to tell stories one day and share the adventure with you. On the weather front, feeling for those families who live in Jasper, A ...Continue Reading

Hard to believe we are at the half-year mark already, time seems to be moving so fast nowadays - maybe it's because we have so many things we attempt to complete and not taking the time to relax to see the sights. This past month I spent nearly every week on the road and captured so many images that I will be sharing in the future; it's exciting to have a good selection of images that I believe you will enjoy. Can honestly say I rarely slow down to enjoy the sights, a habit I am trying to break. Let's get right to the i ...Continue Reading

This month I am going to avoid talking about how the weather is, politics and airlines - too many people are doing that already. Let's just say I hope everyone and their loved ones are doing well as summer as begun in the Northern Hemisphere. For me, this is the time I am extremely busy and can honestly say I do not know when my next weekend without an event will be, without looking at my calendar. There are pluses and minuses being a freelance photographer. The images this month will have history lessons for every ...Continue Reading

If the adage, April showers bring May flowers, is true then most of the Midwest is going to be swimming in flowers real soon. For the last few weeks we have been measuring rainfall in full inches, not fractions of inches. Unfortunately, we have also been experiencing tornadoes and severe weather. This is never enjoyable but I don't think people on the West Coast enjoy mudslides or high-force earthquakes either, each region has its pluses and minu ...Continue Reading

Hopefully everyone is enjoying the spring weather, personally I had a system shock when I left Illinois early last month for Bike Week in Florida and was presented with upper 80 degree temperatures, slightly different from the upper 30's I had left. The motorcycle racing season has fully started for me and already this year I have captured images at five different professional race events, with a couple of more scheduled for this month. One other big event this month occurs a week from today, a Total Solar Eclipse in No ...Continue Reading

How was your extra day February? Wonder how often people with this birthday have problems filling out electronic forms, did the programmer think about a day that only occurs once every four years? According to an article I located on www.al.com, the date is the rarest birth day with about 1 in 1460 chance of being born on this date - guess these people should play the lottery. The are about 5 million people out of the 8 billion people on the plant that are considered leaplings, if you don't like to celebrate birthdays t ...Continue Reading

This year has started off very challenging for me personally, but I expect to turn things around and have a great year, praying that everyone reading this is having a good (or great) start to their year. Mother Nature has been throwing curve balls to most of the US so far this winter, here in Illinois we had a nearly a week of below zero temperatures. Thrown on top of those temperatures was snow, rain, ice, fog and very little sun. After a few snowstorms and starting to see some accumulation that we expected to see for ...Continue Reading
