Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
The month of July is here and that means the Fourth of July Holiday for everyone in the United States, it also means the year is half over. First I need to apologize to everyone for not having this sent out before the first day of the month. I just returned from Wisconsin at a camp that was supposed to have internet access but either they were having hardware issues or everyone at camp was overloading their system. On Friday morning I was in their office and their staff were waiting for their own internet access to become available - reminded me of the dial-up modem days.
The first image this month is from Red, White and Boom fireworks display in Peoria IL, held annually along the riverfront. This event claims to be "The largest fireworks celebration in Illinois", it's always a fun event so anyone in Peoria should take the family. If you are located in the United States, take some time to enjoy the holiday weekend and view a professional fireworks display.
The second image this month is from the Olde English Faire held at Wildlife Prairie Park last weekend, one of the jousters being knocked off his horse. The jousting group are The Knights of Valour from Canada, they can also be seen on the History Channel show Full Metal Jousting. I was able to spend some time talking with the jousters, these events are not scripted and can have serious injuries. One of the jousters, seen in the background of the image, just returned to competition after shoulder surgery 2 years ago and a lengthy recovery process. He talked about getting back into physical and mental shape and admitted he is not 100% - he is protecting his once damaged shoulder. One interesting tidbit, the horses are obviously trained for this activity but after reviewing numerous images I discovered the horses actually close their eyes during impact of the lances.
