Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
Not sure I can believe that November is here, before we know it the white stuff will start falling. Until then it, appears that trees are either ready or not to drop their leaves, here in Central Illinois the majority of tree's don't feel like changing into a vibrant color. Hopefully they change their mind this week and we can capture some wonderful color. Should be some great weather over the next few weeks, so get out and enjoy the outdoors!
The first image this month is subdued fall colors from Bond Falls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The local power company created a small hydroelectric dam upstream from the falls, so there is a constant flow of water for the water falls. The second image was part of my plan for this newsletter one week ago, then hockey team success changed all of that - let me explain. The Peoria Rivermen team is starting its 34th year in professional ice hockey, in its training camp, that started nearly three weeks ago, there were five goalies that showed up to compete for two spots on the roster. Peoria is a highly respected organization in ice hockey, so goalies and players want to play here and success is expected. The Peoria Rivermen have won their leagues regular season title the last two years but have failed to win the Championship Cup. Over one week ago was the opening weekend for the Rivermen and local fans were excited by the signing of two time Gold Medal winning goalie for Team Canada - Shannon Szabados, the first female to play for Peoria. They also signed Canadian Storm Phaneuf, a young goalie with high expectations. Fast forward to one week ago, both Phaneuf and Szabados combined to allow 11 goals in two games (both losses) and both goalies were cut after their first weekend. So the Rivermen signed two other goalies from their training camp; after this weekend pair of games, one of those goalies were also cut. So after four games and two weeks, three of the four goalies signed to a contract by the Peoria Rivermen are no longer with the team! They have signed another new goalie to a contract earlier today - I guess I need to highlight a position other than goalie.
