Date: September 30th 2018

September turned out to be a really long month for myself, thought it was going to be fairly normal and then the month was turned upside down. Started with a few American Flat Track races in Springfield IL and then an opportunity to get out West was presented and off I went. A window opened up and I quickly planned a trip to Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks with couple of weeks on the road. That was followed up with another American Flat Track race day and a couple of other events. All total from September 7 to September 30, I was on the road for over 6500 miles! I can honestly say I am ready for a little slow down but I don't see my schedule getting less active, just more local without the driving. A very large number of images were captured, which will be highlighted in future monthly updates along with my social channels, so stay tuned. Fall is either here in your region or it will be soon, get out and enjoy some colorful scenes.

The first image is Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park, it is the largest hot spring in the United States, and the third largest in the world, after Frying Pan Lake in New Zealand and Boiling Lake in Dominica. Anyone who has been lucky to visit the spring will notice a lack of people while sharped eyed viewers with see ghosting of people. All those spectacular images of Grand Prismatic start like this shot, 20 second (or longer) exposure to eliminate a large number of people and then Photoshop work to remove the remainder. I will be working on an image with no people seen at all but wanted to let everyone see a step in the process.

Our second image this month is one of those being at the right place and right time of a bull moose in Grand Teton National Park at Schwabacher Landing. I was actually at the landing taking sunrise landscape shots. A couple walked by me and informed me of some moose, bulls and cows, around the next bend of the river. I was not really prepared for wildlife with my long lens being in the car but things worked out and a large number of photographers and myself were able to capture great images without long glass. Actually, long lenses were actually a problem based on the distance between us and the moose. Rarely do you hear a photographer say they had too much lens. Luckily this bull moved into some good light and stepped into some calm water - I was ready.
