November 2018 Newsletter

First off, I would like to apologize for the lack of communication over the past few months. While updating my website to comply with new security measures in safe web viewing and to support the latest browsers, I broke a small piece of the website - the newsletter portion. Years ago, middle of 2009, is when I decided to start creating monthly newsletters based on a suggestion of a mentor of mine, Kevin May. So while researching the best way to create newsletters and let people subscribe automatically, I looked for support from my web hosting company. They had a few solutions available and there were commercial options which required more manual entry of subscriber information. While both options had pros and cons, the lack of photography income at the time had me looking at free or low cost products. Fast forward many years and many changes in the World Wide Web, one area I had neglected my website was the newsletter portion, I was not keeping up on updates since it was working as I needed for the most part. My product was old and my website provider was not able to assist me in updating to the latest version; I could have started new but then I would have lost all the history of 9 years of newsletters and possibly all subscribers - you reading this now. So I finally contacted the original developer of the product and was able to get back online and not loose anything. Still have a few kinks to work out but should be completed soon.

So thank you to everyone who contacted me in the past couple of months and your understanding of the problem. Some of you know I kept producting the calendars, so I will be sending out the newsletter portion for each month to get everyone caught up on my activities along with keeping the history of each month. My apologies for having four months of newsletters to read but hopefully you enjoy the stories and images.

October is over!? Where did the month go, seems like I just sent the update for October. The fall colors have been muted in the Midwest except during exceptional light moments - those have not been presented much during my visits to the outdoors. Hopefully I can find some great light this next week and wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable time outdoors enjoying their local fall colors. Ice hockey is moving at full speed, I have already been to hockey rinks in six different cities - either coaching or shooting photos at four different levels.

The first image is Swiftcurrent Lake in Glacier National Park, with Grinnell Point shining brightly from the early morning sunrise. On the left side, Mt.Gould is attempting to get a little light under the clouds, while on the right Mt.Wilbur is warming to the first rays of light with it's peak under cloud cover. This area of Glacier NP is very popular and for good reason, if you stay at Many Glacier Hotel this image is your view off the back of the hotel. While I am near the waters edge to capture this image, the hotel is actually less than 50 yards behind me.

Our second image this month is a little color from Glacier National Park at the start of fall in the park, with a little motion. The image blur is intentional - I was hoping to capture the Aspen trees and colors in the background while making the image soft, almost like a painting (no Photoshop). I took many images attempting to capture something like this in camera and while this is way beyond my comfort zone, I am happy with the result - hope you like it.

For those who loved last months Moose image, I have posted a selection of images for purchase:
