Monthly_Update Message
Mother Nature continues her fun from last month - I thought the phrase was April Showers brings May flowers, if that is true then it must still be April. The amount of rain we have been receiving is probably like the Pacific Northwest, but we have been lucky enough to see the sun on most days. While looking at river level predictions, I learned there are 623 water level gauges for NOAA and National Weather Service in the state of Illinois - over 100 are above flood stage. For the month of May, the Central Illinois area has seen over 3 times our normal precipitation level. The riverfront in Peoria was clearing up and crews started removing sandbags but rains in the past couple of weeks have them installed again. For reference, in the past week the Illinois River has risen 2 feet - it's 8 feet over flood stage level!
The first image is sunset after one of our storms last month, while driving around hoping for lightning I noticed clouds starting to open up near the horizon. So I found a location that was isolated and was able to capture the sun illuminating the clouds. This moment was short lived but happy to capture a few frames.
Our second image this month is a lucky find - I will admit that fact. After another rain storm I was looking for larger leaves with water droplets. I was moving around with my macro lens hoping to find some great water, to be honest I was hoping for drops hanging from the leaves, which I did find some but nothing that really grabbed me. Not sure I have ever seen a piece of grass pierce a leaf before but the bonus for me was to find a water droplet in the same intersection. So what do you think?
