The last newsletter I mentioned having a long road trip coming up, that trip was to North and South Dakota. While visiting those states I had the pleasure of creating images in Badlands National Park, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, photograph three different motorcycle racing events during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and finished the week with a music fundraiser for Easter Seals. It was a very long week but I had a great time and met great people along the way.

The past week the motorsports world suffered a few losses, first being racer, fabricator and television personality Jessi Combs attempting to beat her land speed record of 483.2MPH in the Alvord Desert in Oregon. She was known as the fastest woman on four wheels, she passed away when her jet powered car crashed. At the Spa-Francorchamps race track in Stavelot Belgium yesterday, Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert was killed when he lost control of his car, bounced off a barrier and was hit by another race car traveling over 150MPH. Being a former racer, serious injury or death during an event is not something that we worry or think about; went it does occur the only way to continue is by racing in their honor.

The first image is Theodore Roosevelt National Park, this is from the North Unit and was a small part of a great sunrise experience. The experience started off with an early morning arrival, hoping for clear dark skies and Milky Way photos. My arrival was to clouds and light rain, so after a short nap I hiked to an overlook over the Little Missouri River with cloudy skies but no rain. While I was concerned the 1.5 mile hike was going to be in vain, Mother Nature surprised me with a great sunrise and shortly after a few rainbows. In total there were probably six rainbows over an hour period, with a couple of double rainbows - this image being one of those.

Our second image this month is Cameron Beaubier taken at Pittsburgh International Raceway, he is an American racer in the MotoAmerica Superbike series. He has won three championships, including last season and sits in second place with two rounds remaining. People look at pictures like this and wonder how racers don't fall and how they can lean over so far - let's just say with practice and great tires you would be surprised how far a bike can lean. Just don't try this on regular roads, this is something that should only occur on a racetrack.

Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
