Happy New Year! It's now 2020 - hard to believe, time is really flying by but that's probably since I am so busy and rarely slow down. Last few years have been good and I am hoping to make 2020 the start of years being great. Working on plans for photography trips and looking forward to new adventures. We will star the year off with my favorite image I captured at Reflection Canyon, this was an image I had envisioned for sunrise and was lucky enough to capture. The hard part of this idea, I had not found the location to make the shot, so I had to hike up a hillside by headlamp to search for the proper location. Once I found the general location, then it required work to find the angle I wanted without knowing exactly where the sun would rise. Experience of shooting sunrises helped to get in position for the time the sun rose above the horizon. My next visit will have plenty of time to explore the area and hopefully find some unique images of this wonderful location - planning has already started!
Our second image this month is from Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, MO - near St.Louis. Last weekend while driving across the bridge from Illinois I noticed a large group of American White Pelicans in a body of water. I immediately pulled over and looked at maps to determine how to get next to the water. A few minutes later I was near the Pelicans and looking for a good location to shoot photos. I selected this image since it reminds me of animals going two by two into Noah's Ark, let's just hope no one needs an Ark anytime soon. This is another example of why you always have camera gear with you, you never know when you might find a good subject.
