Monthly_Update Message
While the images this month will not convey thoughts of spring, due to the snow and ice content, warmer days are not far in the future. This winter has been mild in the Midwest, so winter images along with large concentrations of bald eagles that I enjoy to capture have not been available. While those days have not been available much, every opportunity of snow on the ground I make sure I get out and capture images.
The first image this month is an old barn and woodshed, part of a family farm near Peoria IL. This morning was cold and windy, following a few inches of snow the night before. The current owner is a third generation family member but not a farmer, the property has been in the family for over 100 years. There is one other larger barn still standing on the property plus foundations of a couple of other former buildings. After talking with the owner, he let me walk around and shoot pictures for as long as I wished - that is not common with many property owners today as everyone is worried about someone getting hurt and having a lawsuit.
Our second image this month is Eric Levine, the Peoria Rivermen goalie, watching the puck after it bounced off him after a shot. One of my first goals in sports images is to capture the athletes eye(s) while focused but something I have been attempting to capture for many years, the main logo of a puck in view. I have been able to capture pucks in view with hockey players every game but with goalies I usually get the puck on edge or the back of the puck. Ironically two frames after this image, I captured the back of the puck.
