We hope all the readers are staying safe and healthy during this COVID-19 pandemic as it has a stronghold over our planet.  The State of Illinois is still in a stay at home order and people are going crazy wanting to get out, including a few residents creating lawsuits against the governor for being unconstitutional with his order. Obviously these people would never survive a winter in Alaska! Those of us who live in the Midwest had our fair share of precipitation in the month of April, over five inches of rain and nearly 3 inches of snow but on the plus side it seemed much warmer than normal. Less than two weeks ago I was shooting photos of flowers in snow and watching the Illinois River drop, the evening of April 24 the river stage was near 11 feet and May 4 the river stage is forecast to reach 22 feet. As I type this the river is just under 17 feet.

Is there anything additional you would like to see from me, would you be interested in wallpaper backgrounds for cell phones? Would you like to learn more about the camera details of the photos presented each month? If you have any idea's or suggestions, send me a note.

The first image this month is near a classic hiking trail of the United States, some would say in the world - Buckskin Gulch located in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. It is the longest and deepest slot canyon in the Southwest and offers obstacles like rock jams, water pools, quicksand, and the potential for flash floods while taking hikers through incredible layers of the Colorado Plateau. The hike is great for photos and is around 20 miles round trip, while the photo here is from Wire Pass trail which is a shallow wash that leads to Buckskin Gulch.

Our second image this month is a cute 'red dog' - better known as a baby bison. Bison calves are normally born from the end of March into May, with this little guy being less than one month old. Few facts about bison - officially buffalo is an incorrect name for North America's largest mammal, bison is the scientific name. Yellowstone National Park is the only place in the US where bison have continuously lived since prehistoric times, they are pure descendants of early bison (no cattle genes). Bison made their way to America by crossing the ancient land bridge that once connected Asia with North America during the Pliocene Epoch, some 400,000 years ago. This image was taken back in 2008, love the tender nature of the cow with the calve and also her fur starting to shed from the long winter.

Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
