Hard to believe summer is nearly over and kids are back in school in Central Illinois. With COVID-19 still active it's going to be an interesting school year for all ages, including those in college. The financial strain on the colleges without their major sports this fall is going to be huge for them, so hopefully everything works out for everyone. For everyone reading this newsletter and your families, hopefully everyone is well and staying safe.
Up first this month we have a sunset over the Little Missouri River in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, this was taken in 2019 from the Wind Canyon Trail. Last year was my first visit to the park and some may remember I made a return trip this past spring. I find the park is a hidden gem in the National Park system that most people don't even think about since it's in North Dakota. Back in 2000 I bypassed the park after traveling for six weeks to other parks in the west, I regret that decision now but glad I have discovered the park recently. The town of Medora is small but has some historical locations, so make sure you spend a little time there and if you want to see all the National Park has to offer spend a few days hiking and enjoying the sights with the North and South Units. The second image is a memorial tribute to former Peoria Rivermen hockey player TylerAmburgey. Amburgey played in Peoria for parts of 2 seasons between 2013-2015. The former defenseman died at age 29 on Sunday in his home state of Texas, cause of death is not known yet. He was a talented player who was selected to play for the US National Development team but only managed to play pro for four years, recently he was coaching youth hockey teams. This image was captured during the 2013-2014 season and reflects Tyler has he seemed to normally stick his tongue out while passing the puck.
