This past month was interesting with the COVID-19 pandemic still being in the news everyday, entertaining presidential candidate discussions and unfortunately numerous fires along the US West coast. The amount of smoke in the atmosphere was incredible here in the Midwest, can not imagine how things were closer to the fires. Talking to friends near the fires, I learned the smoke was thick but the ash was much worse and covering just about everything. At the end of this month there is a rare event, a rare Halloween Blue Hunter's Moon. A blue moon is when there are two full moons in the same month and occurs every two or three years. A full moon occurs on Halloween roughly every 19 years and a trivia question and answer for all of my US readers, a Halloween full Moon hasn’t appeared for everyone in all time zones since 1944! Thanks to the Farmers Almanac for some of these interesting facts.

The first image for this month is a little scene from the Atlantic Ocean along the coast of Massachusets in Cape Cod. I loved the texture the water created in the sand as the tidal water flowed in and out. I am not the type to sit along the beach and relax, my style is to walk along the waterline and search for patterns or objects. For those who have not spent much time along the ocean coastlines, it is great to explore the various surfaces - some with sand, rocks or combination of both. Hopefully when this COVID-19 pandemic is over, everyone can get out explore this great country of ours.

The second image is from Labor Day weekend, a traditional race event for American Flat Track racers - the Springfield Mile motorcycle race. The race was first started in 1937 and the track is called the Worlds Fastest Mile - the track is unique as the corners and straights are the same length. While that may or may not seem all that strange, this is an important fact since it allows higher speeds as the racers don't need to slow down much in the corners. If you look closely at the image, you can see various racers sliding the rear tire different amounts all while they are averaging nearly 100 miles per hour each circuit for 20-25 laps. It truly is amazing to witness and at times a little scary to photograph next to the track (behind a safety barrier and/or wall).

Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
