The end of summer is coming soon, kids are back in school, so now is a perfect time to get out and enjoy our National Parks! Wish I would have used that mindset last month but we took some time and visited a few National Parks and Monuments out West, plus were able to sample some wildfire smoke at the same time. Next month we will focus more on some of the adventures from the trip to the Western US but first we will present some images from the current Midwest. As always, if you have a subject you would like to see on the calendar, send me a message and we will try to accommodate your request.
Anyone who has visited or lived in the Midwest, the first image is a common scene once you leave the interstate system and travel smaller highways and backroads to rural towns. The corn will remain green for a few more weeks, then I expect it will start to dry out and before we know it the harvest will begin. The area I live, the farmers planted at different times this spring and some were a month apart, so I expect harvest time will be longer than usual - maybe we will get an early snowfall to add to the mix for some unique photo opportunities! One long term project I would like to take on, a time lapse prior to planting until harvest is complete, logistics of this type of project are many but hopefully it's something I can complete in the next few years. Camera Data: 325mm 1/800 sec F5.6 ISO800
Our second image was captured one week ago during the AMA Pro Outdoor Motocross Championship at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville IN. Say hello to Chase Sexton as he enters the sand section at the outdoor track. We are featuring Chase since he is the 2024 450 Class Outdoor Champion, crowned after his overall win on this day. Chase was actually born in IL, with his hometown less than 1.5 hours away from where I currently live, while he no longer lives in IL it's always good to see someone excel in their craft and have a connection to this state - we need to be proud of something right? In the world of motorsports, most are tight lipped about the money side of things, so it's very difficult to know how much Chase makes in a year but on this day he most likely earned over $1.5 million, nice payday that is for sure. While that is a large number, Uncle Sam will be happy to get his share and one thing I have always wondered, how much do these athletes pay for healthcare? Cannot imagine insurance carriers give these riders the same rates as someone sitting at a desk forty hours a week. Camera Data: 400mm 1/1000 sec F4 ISO1600
